The new backyard is E's favorite place to be. Here's a summary of this first 10 minutes out back Friday night - eat some dinner, play in the dirt, eat some dinner, play with toys, eat some dinner, put toys in Ben and Jake's water, eat some dinner, dump Ben & Jake's water out....and repeat for three hours or so. The biggest success of the evening is that he slept in until nearly 8am Saturday morning! HOORAY! That's one point to the parents! I think the score now is Eric 150 and Darin & Becky 5. Darin and I are good closers though, so I'm confident we'll be back in the game soon. :)

Mother's Day
I pretty much had the most super fantastic Mother's Day weekend; it was either my first or second best ever - I can't decide. I just love these two more than anything. It is my pleasure to be called wife and mom.
This is only my second Mother's Day, so I'm still a rookie fo sho, but Mother's Day has been newly crowned as my most favorite day of the year. There's something about feeling triple super loved by my wonderful hubby and whole handful of love two-year old, Eric, that just makes my heart sing. L.O.V.E.
My plants love this time of year, too! The trees and plants just seem to be at their happiest. Absolutely lovely. Hmm...I can see a few spots where I could squeeze in a plant or two or three or.....!!
We've added some new garden beds in the backyard - as it turns out, the old ones weren't tall enough to keep a bloodhound, german shorthair and two-year-old out! They were just a big, hot mess. Ben dug up and ate all the potatoes; Jake laid on all the herbs, and Eric took his shovel to everything else. It was pretty much an epic fail! I'm fairly confident - maybe even 60 to 65% sure - that the new beds are tall enough to keep them out. Fingers.crossed. But seriously, let's just cut to the chase here, we're out numbered and the odds are NOT in our favor. If I were a betting person, I'd bet on the two-year-old, hound and shorthair. Pretty much sounds like a safe bet. (Here's how confident I am - I've already signed up for the weekly Farmhouse Table produce pickup!)
Darin gave me "landscape green light" on Mother's Day - which meant that I could pickup some new plants without having absolutely any idea where the hell I would put them. As it turns out, I LOVE landscape green light! Here's my newest additions: Red beech tree, creeping thyme, oak leave hydrangea, blue flax, minnesota evergreen creeper, veronica, and a couple other things that I don't remember now. I guess it's about time that I come to terms with the notion that I might kind of have a slight plant addiction. I even tried a plant diet recently, and I made it a whole week, but pretty much only because I worked all week and that made it really tough to get to the nursery. I totally fell off the wagon that next weekend. It's like I need plant weight watchers; I have no willpower at all. And this is exactly why one of our landscape rules is that I can only go to nurseries with Darin. I need a calm voice of reason with me - otherwise I'd have 100s of trees! I'd pull out the driveway and fill it in with plants - it's totally wasted space. :)
Thank you for the wonderful Mother's Day weekend, DK - love you so much!

Eric was a big help filling in the new garden beds.
Any guesses on how much dirt was everywhere BUT in the bed? Practicing can be messy work!Thank you for the wonderful Mother's Day weekend, DK - love you so much!
